Frequently Asked Questions

What type of shells can be used with the caddy?

The caddy is designed for shotgun shells with a minimum length of 56 mm. In practice, it is suitable for the majority of commonly used 12/70 shells, which are commonly used in IPSC Shotgun and 3-Gun. However, compatibility should not be based only on shell markings such as 12/70, 12/65, etc., as these markings do not indicate the actual length of a closed shell.

Shotgun shell markings, such as 12/70, refer to the length of the chamber = the length of the shell after firing and opening. The actual length of a closed shell can vary depending on the type of crimp and the load used.

For example, some 12/65 slug or buckshot shells may actually be longer when closed than some 12/70 shells loaded with birdshot.

The current version of the caddy is not compatible with 12/63.5 shells, such as some Sellier & Bellot Practical shells, which are too short for the standard configuration. The manufacturer is working on an additional spacer that will allow these shells to be used as well.

Which belt is suitable for this caddy?

The caddy can be used with any belt that meets the maximum dimensions specified in the product specifications.

For IPSC and other practical shooting disciplines, a sturdy belt that does not twist is recommended, such as a standard two-piece IPSC belt.

Can the caddy angle be adjusted?

The angle of the 24+1 caddy is set by the manufacturer and, based on their experience, is suitable for shooters without the need for further adjustment. The angle of the caddy itself is not user-adjustable.

The angle of the 12+1 and 8+1 caddies is fully adjustable. Simply loosen the screws connecting the caddy to the Tek-Lok clip, set the desired angle by rotating the caddy, and retighten the screws.

With the 24+1 caddy, the height of the caddy relative to the belt can be adjusted slightly using the screws that attach the caddy to the Tek-Lok clip. The caddy and clip must always be connected using at least two screws.

Can the shell retention be adjusted?

No, the shell retention is not user-adjustable. The caddy is factory-set to provide optimal shell retention without the need for any further adjustments or modifications.

How durable is the caddy?

The caddies are very durable, but as they are made primarily from plastic, they can wear out or get damaged accidentally with intensive, long-term use.

With normal use, one of the “claws” that hold the shells may eventually break after an extended period of time. More common than wear, however, is damage caused by accidentally catching an outer claw on an obstacle or by dropping the caddy.

If such damage does occur, individual replacement modules are available directly on this page, so there is no need to purchase an entirely new caddy.

Feedback from regular users shows that their caddies remain in service even after several years of use.

Samuel Moreira uses the caddies almost every day for dry fire training, several times a week for range training, and of course during competitions. One caddy lasts Samuel approximately 6–12 months before a claw gets damaged. This is, however, an extreme level of use corresponding to high-level competition training.

What is the temperature resistance of the caddy?

The caddy is made of heat-resistant plastic designed for general outdoor use, including exposure to sunlight. The manufacturer states a temperature resistance of approximately 80 °C.

The caddy is, of course, not intended to be exposed to extreme temperatures, such as near an engine or other source of intense heat.
